Landscapes

The art of the landscape:  not a trivial pursuit, and worthy of full-time practice, although for me it is currently an area of part-time inquiry.  You will see a variety of influences at work here.  It is true to say that I lionize Paul Cezanne — a man who single-handedly reinvented painting —  and who is accepted as a pre-eminent master of colour.  As for subject matter, I tend to work from images and locations that I know; my home on Bowen Island, BC, provides many ideas and subject matter.

I also work from photographs or invented ideas.  Many of the paintings you see displayed here are in private collections on Bowen Island and elsewhere, but if a particular image grabs you, feel free to contact me regarding its status.
